GRANT ASSSITANCE

Mitigation shouldn't break the budget.

Washington landowners and communities are leaving millions in wildfire mitigation funding on the table — usually because they don't know it exists or don't have time to chase it. We find the grants, write the applications, and handle the documentation.

Fuel Doesn't Reduce Itself

Every dry summer adds to what's already on the ground. An assessment shows you exactly what you're carrying — and what it would take to fix it.

WHAT WE DO

Grant Work, End to End so You Can Focus on the Land

Most wildfire mitigation funding in Washington flows through agency programs that weren't designed for the average property owner. The application windows are short. The documentation requirements are demanding. The reporting continues long after the work is done.

Blue Pine Fuels handles all of it. We identify the right grant for your property or community, write and submit the application, manage the post-award documentation, and coordinate with the funding agency through final reimbursement.

We're not grant generalists — every dollar we've helped clients secure has been specifically for wildfire mitigation, fuels reduction, defensible space, or community wildfire planning. We know the programs because we use them ourselves.

        WHAT's included

        Full Cycle Grant Management

Grant work doesn't end when the application is submitted. We handle every phase from initial scoping through final reimbursement.

        Program Identification

We match your property, community, or project to the right funding program based on eligibility, timeline, and likelihood of award.

        Application Writing

We draft the full application — narrative, scope, budget, maps, and supporting documentation — in the format the funding agency requires.

        Project Scoping + Mapping

Existing slash piles are chipped, spread, or hauled — turning concentrated fuel hotspots into treated, manageable material.

        Budget Development

We build a defensible cost estimate using current Washington market rates — the kind that survives agency review without callbacks.

        Documentation + Reporting

Post-award, we handle the photo documentation, progress reports, and acreage tracking that grants require throughout the project life.

        Reimbursement Coordination

We work directly with the funding agency to process draws and final reimbursement — the part most clients dread doing themselves.

One Team: The same team writes the grant and does the work. That means the scope you apply for is exactly what gets built — no handoff gaps, no missed documentation, no surprise reimbursement issues at closeout.

        WHO IT'S FOR

Grant Work that Scales with the Project

Individual homeowners use grants to cover defensible space and fuels reduction on their property. HOAs and Firewise communities pursue larger awards covering common areas, road clearance, and multi-property treatments. Local governments and fire districts pursue federal grants for community-wide planning and mitigation. The same team works across all three scales.

        HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

How Our Grant Work Gets Paid For

Most clients don't pay us out of pocket for grant assistance. Here's how the fee structure typically works depending on the program and project type.

        How it Usually Breaks Down

One Call Consultation The first call is always free. We'll tell you straight up whether your property or community is a good fit for a grant — and if not, what alternatives make sense.
Bundled with the Mitigation Work When we apply for funding to do work on your property, the grant administration fee is built into the project budget. You pay nothing separately — the grant covers both the work and our admin time.
Community + HOA Scoping For larger neighborhood or community-scale grant applications, we typically work on a flat scoping fee that's reimbursable once the grant is awarded — covered by the grant itself.
Agency + Municipality Engagements Government clients pursuing federal grants (BRIC, CWDG, HMGP) generally engage us under a contract that's reimbursable through the grant award once secured.

Typical Award Sizes We've Worked With

        Home Owner / Small Parcel
        $2K - $25K
Single structure, moderate brush density, accessible terrain. Most common starting scope for homeowners doing a first-time treatment.
        HOA / Neighborhood
        $25K - 250K
Multi-property and common-area treatments. Often funded through DNR Community Resilience grants or county cost-share programs.
        Community / Municipality
        $25K - $5M
Whole-community wildfire mitigation projects funded through federal programs. Requires a CWPP and full project planning support.

You don't pay if we don't win. For most engagements, our fees are tied to a successful award. If a grant doesn't come through, you're not on the hook for our application work. Ask us about specifics on your first call.

Every situation is different. Eligibility, match requirements, and timelines vary by program. A free consultation tells you exactly what's possible for your property — no obligation.

        COMMON QUESTIONS

What People Ask About Grant Assistance

        • Will I actually quality for a grant?

Most properties in designated high-risk WUI zones in Central Washington qualify for at least one program. Eligibility depends on location, parcel size, work scope, and current condition. The free consultation tells you yes or no quickly — and if not, what alternatives make sense.

        • How long does the grant process take?

State and county programs typically run 60–120 days from application to award. Federal programs can take 6–18 months. We tell you the realistic timeline up front so you know what to expect — and how to plan around fire season.

        • Do I have to pay you if the grant is not approved?

For most homeowner and small-parcel engagements, no. Our application work is tied to a successful award. For larger community and federal grants, fee structures vary based on project scope — we'll lay it out clearly before any work begins.

        • Can I apply for a grant myself?

Yes — and some homeowners do. But the documentation, mapping, and budget requirements are demanding, and the time investment is real. Most clients hire us because they want the work done right and don't want to learn the system from scratch.

        • What if I already started the work?

Most programs require pre-approval before work begins — once you've started, that scope of work can't be retroactively funded. If you're planning mitigation, talk to us first. If work is already underway, we can sometimes apply for funding to cover the remaining or future phases.

        • Do you work with other contractors?

Generally we write grants for work we'll execute ourselves — that way we control the scope, documentation, and reimbursement end to end. For unusual situations or specialized projects, we'll refer to other qualified contractors.

There's likely a grant for your property. Let's find it.
